BIOGRAPHY
L.E. "Luke" Brooker
Luke Brooker is the Highlands County Clerk of Circuit and County Court. He was elected by a county wide vote in September 1992 Primary and began his term of office in January 1993. He ran unopposed in 1996 and had opposition in 2000. He was re-elected and is now in his fourth term.
He is a 51-year resident of Highlands County with a private business background in Real Estate Sales and Development. In addition, he has extensive experience in fee and government appraising and also has ownership in several citrus groves in the Highlands County area.
Luke is a graduate of Sebring High School, received his associate of Arts Degree from Manatee Community College, and his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Warner Southern College. Luke also holds a Graduate Certificate in Public Management from the University of South Florida. His field of studies focused on Government, Business Administration, and Personnel Management.
Luke is a Vietnam Naval veteran and served in a River Division and Seabee Detachment. He was honorably discharged in 1971, bringing home three medals- the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal.
Luke has been married 30 years and his wife, Martie is an educator in the Highlands County School System. They have four children, Bear, age 29, a 1999 graduate of the University of Florida, and now employed by the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. Bo, age 27, a 2002 graduate of the United States Naval Academy, and now serving as a Lieutenant out of Mayport Naval Station, Jacksonville, Florida. Bonny, age 25, a graduate of the University of Florida, and now teaching 3rd grade in Labelle, Florida. Brian, age 22, a graduate of Sebring High School and college student.
Luke is an active member of the First Baptist Church of Sebring, where he serves as a Deacon, former Chairman of their Personnel Committee, and also sings in their adult choir. His other involvements in our community include membership in; Sebring Fireman, Inc., Dixie Youth Baseball Coach, past President of Highlands County YMCA, District Vice Chairman Gulf Ridge Council of Boy Scouts of America, Foundation Board of Directors of the Children's Services Council of Highlands County, Member of the Board of Directors of the Highlands County 4-H Foundation, and former member and Chairman of Sebring Airport Authority. In addition, he has held all of the elected offices with the Florida Association of Court Clerks & Comptrollers and he served as their State President in Year 2000-2001.
His hobbies include hunting, fishing, conservation, and supporting the Florida Gator Athletic Program.
