The Information Technology (IT) department used to be called automated services and provides computing services to both the Clerk of Courts and the Highlands County Board of County Commissioners. In addition, the Clerk's IT department also provides financial application services to the Sheriff, Tax Collector, Property Appraiser, and Supervisor of Elections. By combining resources and services, the IT department has been instrumental in leading the way to help provide Highlands County citizens and governmental agencies real-time access to databases and services.
A few of the most recent accomplishments have been:
Web access to a variety of Building Department Permitting functions. This new system gives builders the capability to view and track existing permits and inspections which enables contractors and builders to more efficiently utilize their limited resources and time.
Online scheduling of building inspections.
Online Code Enforcement information.
Online searchable access to recorded documents.
Online searchable access to court records.
Implementation of shared fiber optic cabling for the Board of County Commissioners, Clerk of Courts, Highlands County Sheriff's office, and the Emergency Operations Center.
Implementation of mobile laptops for Code Enforcement and Building Department inspectors which provides real-time access to data and services for mobile employees.
With the continuing growth of Highlands County, it is important that all local government agencies be able to continue providing a quality level of service to county residents. With the aid of advanced technologies, the IT department is helping to create process efficiencies and provide easier access to needed services.
